It all started with a gooseberry bush. A desire to rescue a once loved garden for the local community. The gooseberry bushes had been planted long ago and had become overgrown with weeds. The Station Master’s Community Wildlife Garden was born in 2012 after so many years of neglect of a pretty big piece of trackside land near the Whitley Bay Metro Station. The local community banded together to turn it into a space for people, food growing, bugs, trees, frogs and events to bring us all together. Then we started the Yoga Station to help fund it. Then the Green Beans Market and soon the Lamp Light recording studio and art space to inject creativity – a community initiative that draws together art, food, creativity, people. Community matters, and it all started with a gooseberry bush.
Community is our heart.
